Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 6 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 1 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2-1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • One 32-ounce can chicken broth
  • 1 broth can of milk
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • Salt
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of finely chopped ham
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley

Instructions 

  • In a medium saucepan, cook carrots and celery in water until tender; drain.
  • In a large soup pot, over medium heat, melt butter and sauté onion until tender, but not brown.
  • Stir in flour and cornstarch, then add broth and milk. Stir until smooth and saucy.
  • Add all other ingredients and simmer until cheese is melted and well blended.
