Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg unbeaten
  • 1/2 cup seedless raisins
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 to 3 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Sift the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar into a mixing bowl.
  • Work in the butter with pastry blender or fingertips until the mixture resembles meal.
  • Add the milk and egg, and stir in just until the dry ingredients are moistened. Stir in the raisins.
  • Turn into a well-greased pan about 10 x 14 x 2 inches or into two 8-inch pans.
  • Mix the sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over the top, and bake in a preheated moderate to moderately hot oven, 375 to 400°F.
  • This is good served cold but better when served warm. Butter can be dotted over the cinnamon and sugar.
