about 3 firm, unblemished apples

melted butter

confectioners' sugar.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Peel the apples. Quarter them and cut away the core.
Arrange them cored side down in a buttered dish and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with the confectioners' sugar.
Place in the oven and bake 10 minutes. Before serving, run briefly under the broiler.
