Quick Oatmeal Or Wheat Flake Cookies

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 whole egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp double-acting baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips optional
- 1 teaspoon grated orange rind (optional)
- ½ cup raisins (optional)
- 6 oz can flaked coconut optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Cream: 1/2 cup butter
- Add and cream well: 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Combine and beat in until smooth: 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tbsp milk
- Sift together and add to the above ingredients: 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon double-acting baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- When beaten smooth, add: 1 cup uncooked quick rolled oats or wheat flakes
- For a different flavor or texture, try adding one of the following: (3/4 cup chocolate chips)
- (1 teaspoon grated orange rind)
- (1/2 cup raisins)
- (1 can flaked coconut)
- Beat the mixture well. Drop cookies 2 inches apart on a well-greased cookie sheet and bake 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown.
