Ingredients
- 4 cup pitted pie red cherries
- 1 to 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 5 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 4 drops almond extract
- 1 ½ tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Prepare basic pie crust.
- Combine the pitted fresh cherries with the sugar, flour, and flavoring.
- Turn into a pastry-lined pie pan. Trim the edge of the pastry, moisten it, and dot the filling with butter. Adjust the top crust in place, cut vents for steam, trim the edge, and crimp together the bottom and top crusts. Bake at 450°F 15 minutes, reduce the heat to 350°F, and bake 25 to 30 minutes longer. Cool on a rack.
- Cherry pie is usually served cool. Some people like to add a topping of cheese or ice cream.
