Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rye meal not regular rye flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 1 cup milk approximately
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions 

  • Sift together into a mixing bowl the flour, rye meal, salt, cinnamon and baking powder.
  • Beat the egg, add the molasses and pour into the flour mixture. Add 2/3 cup of the milk and mix thoroughly, adding more milk if necessary to make a medium stiff batter.
  • Drop the batter from a spoon slightly larger than a tbsp into oil heated to 360°F. Fry about 2-1/2 minutes on each side. Serve hot with maple syrup and sausages.
