Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 cups chopped seeded raisins
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp double-acting baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg

Instructions 

  • Combine and blend well: 1 cup packed brown sugar and 1/2 cup shortening
  • Add: 1 cup milk, 1 cup molasses. 1 cup dry bread crumbs, 2 beaten eggs, 2 cups chopped seeded raisins
  • Sift before measuring: 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Resift with: 2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon each ginger, cloves and grated nutmeg.
  • Add sifted ingredients to the molasses mixture.
  • Pour batter into a well-greased pudding mold.
  • Steam 1-1/2 hours.
  • Serve hot with prepared hard sauce or foamy sauce.
