Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup dry bread crumbs
- 2 beaten eggs
- 2 cups chopped seeded raisins
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp double-acting baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ginger
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
Instructions
- Combine and blend well: 1 cup packed brown sugar and 1/2 cup shortening
- Add: 1 cup milk, 1 cup molasses. 1 cup dry bread crumbs, 2 beaten eggs, 2 cups chopped seeded raisins
- Sift before measuring: 2 cups all-purpose flour
- Resift with: 2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon each ginger, cloves and grated nutmeg.
- Add sifted ingredients to the molasses mixture.
- Pour batter into a well-greased pudding mold.
- Steam 1-1/2 hours.
- Serve hot with prepared hard sauce or foamy sauce.
